STAFF TRAINING – A SERIOUS MATTER

A part of the definition of what an adventure is always includes the words risk or hazard.
An adventure will always include an inherent risk that cannot be removed. Risks however can be managed and reduced. Today’s staff training focused on this simple fact. It is an impressive experience sitting in a room with forty highly educated and humble professionals who all acknowledge that additional training to reduce the possibility of an accident is immensely useful. Over half of the individuals sitting in that half-moon of sticky plastic chairs were emergency first aid instructors. None considered themselves to be fully taught, and all listened attentively to the few instructors that was chosen to hold the course. As an instructor, you often find yourself being expected to know everything, but in reality knowledge easily slips away unless it is maintained. I cannot express enough how proud I feel to be in a working in an environment where even an instructor is encouraged to learn more about something they should already be more than proficient at.
