It is day one of the summer camp program and I am unsure if I have ever been as exhausted after a working day as today. Though exhausted, I am very happy about how today turned out. In spite of minor and major mishaps throughout the day that delayed our schedule about three hours we managed to go through all the activities that we had planned for today, even if this stimulated the development of slightly exhausted staff members. But more importantly than discomfort is the fact that I truly believe that all of our shipmates had an amazing first day - because at the end of the day, that is what really counts. When rushing between boats in a super dink (fast rib boat) to drop off snorkel gear or important information scribbled on a piece of wet paper irrelevant things can sometimes seem like they are of fundamental importance for everything that you are trying to accomplish. But they really are not as important as they might seem, as long as you have ten fingers and ten toes still attached, all is good, And if you are lying in the staff cabin after a successful day filled with snorkeling, sailing, swimming and scuba with the students falling asleep like babies on a boat they just stepped on board, life might even be considered great. And who knows, maybe by tomorrow they might even call this Jeanneau 50.9 sailing boat home.
