The Snowball Effect

Every now and then you will encounter days when everything that can go wrong does go wrong and at some point just have to shrug your shoulders and convince yourself that is just one of those days in order to salvage your mental sanity. Today was one of those days. We started our morning bright and early to a wrapped propeller. There is nothing as lovely as starting the day swimming in water filled with feces (note: sarcasm). A dropped dock line in the water and a lost fender later, accompanied with countless bloopers from our students causing us staff to fear for their safety, the day finally slowed down. As a general rule I try to trust my gut feeling and today my gut was screaming loudly that a night dive with these kids would be risky business, so accordingly, I made the decision to not do the night dive. They simply did not have the focus needed to conduct such a dive today, and I had no interest in searching for lost teenage divers in the middle of the night. I did however take another boat’s shipmates for the night dive and it was amazing. Meanwhile our boat took a well-deserved break and simply just enjoyed some spare time.
