The infamous city of Hong Kong

Current location: Somewhere in flight between Hong Kong and Bali

Only a local could take on the incomprehensive task of trying to show you a city in 18 hours. Hong Kong is nothing but impressive. The infrastructure seems to have millions of secret pathways and well hidden routes that lead to an even more striking area that serves proof to human creativity. The narrow, constantly turning roads that pierce through the most unexpected spaces remind me of a network of roads that only a child would have the imagination and ingenuity to build. I could not imagine myself driving there and actually manage to find my way. The peak of Hong Kong offered an impressive view, probably one of the better ones I have ever seen. I was surprised by the apparent calmness of the city below – there were no sounds emitted

and there seemed to be a sense of serenity in the air. All and all, I received an amazing tour from my friend, and I saw many of the key areas in the central district. He showed me buildings that gave me vertigo from just looking at them, but the thing I found most impressive was seeing that they use bamboo for all construction framework on buildings. It gave the place a more genuine feel to it. As I had breakfast this morning talking to my friend’s brother at the local sports club he told me about life in Hong Kong. Although the city breathes money and extravagance it also became apparent that Hong Kong is a city that pleases a selected few and that everyday life might be harder that the fancy suits on Main Street might have you believe. I am very grateful for the hospitality that was given to me during my brief stay and I sincerely wish that I can return the favor some time in the future. Next stop: Bali.
