Current location: 8°14’31’’S 115°22’30’’ E Mount Batur, Bali, Indonesia.
I arrived in time for dinner with my new family. My brother will be married in two days and this is the first time I get the chance to say hello to my entire family. I show up in dirty traveling clothes and a little bit out of it. The dinner was brilliant and the setting beautiful. I got asked the question if I wanted to hike Mt. Batur in the morning. How could I ever say no to a sunrise hike? Actually, I say no to them all the time, but climbing Mt. Batur was on my list of things that I really wanted to do in Bali. We left the hotel at 2 am and drove to the bottom of Bali’s highest peak. Mount Batur is an active volcano that stretches vast distances over the island with a caldera lake in the middle. The hike was hard. In fact it was really hard, but it was well worth the hard work. Well on top we were given boiled eggs and a banana sandwich. To be honest, it wasn’t very good and I believe that the monkeys that lived on the peak appreciated this and were dependent on this fact for their survival. All and all it was a brilliant day, although I must admit, I ended up being very tired for the rest of the day. Tomorrow is the wedding BBQ. I am excited.
