Sailing around the world

I have a dream. It is a dream that has been sneaking up on me since I was a little child, but that I somehow always have been striving for. I grew up sailing in the Swedish archipelago with my family, but I don’t think my parents knew the imprint it would make on my dreams and my future. Back then, to me, sailing was just a way of transporting oneself to new places and new friends, and I never took much interest in the sailing itself. Yet I cried for a month when my parents sold our boat and instead bought a new one in Greece, I didn’t understand how you could trade away the Swedish archipelago for tzatsiki and good weather. A while back I found myself in somewhat of a cross roads, and that is where things started to make sense. I have a three-year plan. I am going to work like a dog for the next three years to make enough money to buy a 30ft sailing boat suitable for ocean-crossings. On the fourth year I will prepare the boat and myself for the voyage whilst living all-year round on my boat, working to save money for my journey. On the fifth year I’m leaving and I’m coming back whenever I feel like it. Perhaps I turn around just south of Denmark, or maybe I make it across all of the oceans. Truth be told, it doesn’t really matter. It is the lifestyle I want, not the destination. I have traveled enough in my life and seen enough places to know that all places are more or less the same; there is water, land and culture. It is all about the journey and the experience of challenging yourself and meeting new people.
