The longest day of your life

So far today I have ran up the highest mountain in all of the Virgin Islands; Mt. Sage, sipped on the island’s best smoothie and had a breakfast worthy a king or queen, and it is not even noon yet. Today is the “longest day of your life” day at ActionQuest. It start’s at 6am and doesn’t end until a little before midnight. Before I get to lay down my head in my hammock, I will have climbed a mountain (check), participated in a sandcastle contest, sailed and had a barbecue party where people can get their hair braided Caribbean style. It is difficult to get enough time to yourself to reflect on the experiences you are having when you are working in this kind of environment. Every minute counts and a 15-minute sleep-in is a gift from heaven. Most of the time the awesomeness of the experience hits you when you get home. I have a tradition to run up the mountain first session every summer, because I enjoy the work-out but more so because it is an hour with no engagement of my brain. I can let my thoughts wander and reflect on my summer and my performance. So far in the trip we have had a lot of big smiles on the lips of our shipmates, and we have successfully managed to certify a large amount of divers. Everyone is safe, and seems to be genuinely happy. Once again, time is running out and I have to get back to dinghy shuttling of 140 shipmates to their boats, but these couple of minutes writing these couple of words have made my mind a little less crowded with thoughts and reflections. Peace.
