Current location: 47°52’1’’N 4°31’47’’W, Atlantic Ocean 7 nautical miles off of the French west coast
So far we have travelled 178 nautical miles (331 km) along the French coast. If I look to my left all you see is the Atlantic. If we turn our boat 90° to the west, we would end up in the America’s in less than three weeks. The idea is tempting, but then again that’s not where we are going, at least not this time. But I can’t help but to wonder, how would I do with nothing but ocean for three weeks? I think I would love it. The trip I am making right now serves two purposes, that combined I suppose in reality are one and the same. I am looking to log sea time for a professional skipper’s license, the yacht master, but more importantly I am in a sponge-like manner trying to accumulate as much knowledge and experience to be well prepared for my journey. Lately, I have boldly exclaimed to most people that I will sail around the world. I am not sure if I ever will make it all around the globe, but I will set sail and go wherever I please. Of that I am sure. Having been out on the water only a couple of days I still feel that I have learnt a lot about seamanship, currents and tidal waters. We have also heard a large amount of “Securite” calls and one distress call “Pan-pan”. Too bad they only speak French.
