Current location: The thyrrenean sea between Sicily and Sardinia,38°21.478’N 010°58.313’E
There is something special about being in the middle of a sea. You look around and all you can see is blue. Blue skies and blue water. And then the night comes, and the big waves that were chasing you don’t seem so furious anymore, because now you cannot see them. All you can see is the stars and the foam that the moonlight allows you to spot in the darkness. A while into my night watch, I noticed bioluminescence in the water. I can think of nothing more beautiful to keep you company throughout the night. Every now and then you could hear someone chatting on the VHF radio, most of the time, barely audible. Not a lot of boats were within range. We have settled into the watches routine, and there is a comfort in adjusting your time to whenever you next watch comes around. I asked myself. Could I do this for three weeks, would I enjoy crossing an ocean? I think so. jhjh
