There is something magical about waking up on a boat. Waking up in a newly made bed and looking out seeing the clear water of the Mediterranean is one of best wake-ups I could imagine. The first day on the catamaran was spent stocking up the boat with some food and awaiting better weather before crossing the bay “Golfo di Taranto”. In Crotone we are picking up another crewmember, Richard. It’s just 70 nautical miles or so. But until then I figured I’d explore the little town of Santa Maria di Leuca. I went for a run in the morning, and enjoyed watching the waves hitting the beach. A brave Italian man was surfing the waves just before they hit the rocks. This town is more picturesque than the towns I passed on the way down, that all had an eerie feel to them.
The boat that I am on is a Matrix 4500, a sturdy catamaran built in South Africa, and so far the crew seems better than what I could have hoped for. I think I will have a great time this up-coming month sailing with them.
