“I’ve never washed dishes in jellyfish before”, I think to myself as I look down into the bucket of seawater. I kick it, and it starts to glow in a dim green color. We have now been out on the water for almost four days, and we are trying to conserve water. We have settled into a routine, sleeping and eating between our watches, and the days and nights lull by hand in hand without any real separation between them. The only schedule we follow is when to go back on watch and when to eat. It’s nice. Calm. The twilight watches are my favorites. Just before sunrise, and just after sunset, the sea is breathtakingly beautiful. It is that time when you can see both the stars and the rays of the sun. It’s like the day and night get along for a fleeting couple of minutes, before they go their separate ways.
